From now 1,000 passengers can launch their journey at the same time

Allgäu Airport: Two new gates are accomplished – Now capacity for five planes

On schedule for holiday season the Allgäu Airport increases his handling capacity. On level 1 in the terminal of Memmingen arose two new gates mostly available for flights into Non-Schengen-countries. They´ve been opened on Friday in presence of Hans-Joachim Weirather, the Unterallgäuer district administrator. Consequently the Allgäu Airport has the ability to attend five planes at the same time which corresponds approximately 1,000 passengers.

“So that we´re best armed for further increase”, said Ralf Schmid, announcer of the Allgäu Airport management.

Altogether 1.7 million Euros have been invested in the extension of the terminal. Gate 4 has already been opened last year. Now after a construction period of eleven months new elevators, a stairway in- and outside and the two departure gates with a space of 440 square meters are finished. The main part of the work has been made by night. Due to the ash cloud the air traffic was stopped for several days and so the craftsmen took their chance and did some extra work by day. In addition the arrival area of the Non-Schengen flights was enlarged.

Further services are provided due to another café bar, called “Coffee Fellows”, which sells drinks, sweets and snacks on the first level of the terminal.
